Description

The 1980’s saw an explosion of American Sign Language in the theater arts everywhere! It began being seen in concerts, movies, TV productions, Broadway shows, and even the Academy Awards. ASL is expressed by movements of the hands and face. In theater, ASL uses pantomime, facial expressions, body movements and stance, and grows so much confidence.

In this class, we will explore ASL’s beauty, its language, its unique way of expressing yourself, and then use it in theater.

Teacher:

Donna Iverstine

Donna serves as a CYT instructor teaching Dance, Improv, ASL, and Stunts/Combat. She has also served as the Improv Team coach. She’s directed CCT's Godspell, as well as CYT’s Lion King, Jr., Tuck Everlasting, Tarzan, Peter Pan, Shrek the Musical, Mary Poppins, and Beauty & the Beast. Donna has performed with various theater groups and companies, and she currently serves as director for Timbrel Dance Company. She enjoys seeing actors and dancers, young and old, grow in their God-given talents and giftings.
