Class Description

This workshop is designed to provide the students of theater with an overview of comedy including its various theatrical styles and respective acting techniques. Comedic genres covered include: farce, modern comedy, high comedy, slapstick, satire, and melodrama. Upon completion of this course, students will have experience in the following areas:
  • The “rules” of comedy
  • The difference between the different genres of comedy & their respective acting techniques
  • The importance of a “straight-man” and his/her role in comedy
