About CYT Classes - Where the fun begins!

Every session (Fall, Winter and Spring) CYT Baton Rouge offers 10-week theater arts classes to children & youth ages 5 – 18. These two hour after-school classes are held once a week. On the final week of classes, students will display a portion of what they've learned by participating in a SHOWCASE for family and friends.

*AGE REQUIREMENT:
- You must be 18 through the entire session to be eligible to take classes and audition.
- You must be in school (elementary, middle or high school). Once you graduate from high school, you are no longer eligible to participate.

Enrolled students, ages 8 – 18, have the opportunity to audition for a CYT Broadway-style musical!

Younger students may serve as ushers at CYT shows, and students ages 14 and up may work on a backstage crew. You must be enrolled in a CYT class in order to be eligible to audition for a show.

*NOTE If the class your child wants to take is full, please email classes@cytbatonrouge.org. We have waiting lists; also we can potentially create a new class if there are enough students who are interested.

Current Teachers:

Alyssa Bourque

Alyssa Bourque is a dancer, singer, teacher, and theater lover! As a CYT alumni, she has shared the CYT stage many times and had the opportunity to return as a performer in CCT's debut show, Godspell. Alyssa has a BFA in dance, and is currently teaching art and dance at a local elementary school. When she is not teaching, she loves to throw pottery and rock climb with her husband.

Bekah Branton

Bekah has been a part of CYT for the past 5 years. She has had the opportunity to serve as many different rolls on past production teams. Bekah made her directing debut in winter of 2022 and is ecstatic to be directing again on Finding Nemo JR. Her favorite place to be is behind the glass in a headset calling show cues as stage manager or walking down Main Street with a dole whip in her hand and Mickey ears on her head in Walt Disney World. Bekah loves to be the organizer of chaos, she adores homeschooling her children, and playing board games with her friends and family. She has been in many stage productions herself and holds a degree in education. Bekah can also be found teaching epic classes at CYT. She was over the ‘ocean’ excited to work with these amazing kids and bring Finding Nemo, Jr to stage.

Chanler Landon

Chanler is a CYT alumni, where she has performed in four shows, and just completed her first CCT show. She is overjoyed to be able to start teaching something she loves, with the people she loves, serving the One she loves. She has done musical theatre for 6 years and hopes to share and extend this passion with others. Let’s tell a story!!!

Donna Iverstine

Donna serves as a CYT instructor teaching Dance, Improv, ASL, and Stunts/Combat. She has also served as the Improv Team coach. She’s directed CCT's Godspell, as well as CYT’s Lion King, Jr., Tuck Everlasting, Tarzan, Peter Pan, Shrek the Musical, Mary Poppins, and Beauty & the Beast. Donna has performed with various theater groups and companies, and she currently serves as director for Timbrel Dance Company. She enjoys seeing actors and dancers, young and old, grow in their God-given talents and giftings.

Gabrielle Daniels

Jeff Elliott

In High School I enjoyed the opportunity to play Harold Hill in our production of the Music Man. For more than a decade, I continued to assist my alma mater by designing and painting sets. With a background in Industrial Design, Graphic Design, and 3D modeling and animation, I have always enjoyed creativity and problem solving. Several years ago, when all 3 of my children got involved with CYT, I jumped at the chance to once again work on sets as a member of the CYT Warehouse Team and as a backstage Set Ninja. Now, grateful for the opportunity to be back on the stage with the talented group at CCT, i pray that you are blessed by this performance and encouraged by our passion to glorify God by bringing this difficult story to life. May the Lord bless and keep you. (Numbers 6:24)

Joanna Gill

Greetings! My name is Joanna Gill and I am super excited to be a part of the CYT family. Kids have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember! Not only do I have a Master's Degree in Education, but I have also been a children's pastor, as well as, an elementary school teacher. The Lord called me to help shape young kids lives and I look forward to doing just that, at CYT!

Kerry McKnight

Hi! I have been married for the last 22 years to the wonderful Todd McKnight. We have five children, Elena, Lexi, Landon, Luke, and Lizzie. I did gymnastics on scholarship at LSU from 1996-2000. My passion in life is to glorify God with any talents and gifts He has given me. Let’s have a great session at CYT Baton Rouge!!!!

Leigh Ann Landon

Leigh Ann Landon has been teaching music for 20 years at the elementary school level. She loves seeing the possibilities of musical adventures come alive in kids as they discover new talents and develop new skills while enhancing a life-long love of music through singing, playing, and performing.

Melissa Beatty

Melissa has a passion for teaching youth theatre. She grew up doing theatre with The Drama Room and with DSACT in her hometown of Denham Springs. She has taught preschool music classes, as well as directed and assistant directed multiple musicals over the years. She joined the CYT family 2 years ago and has taught CYT youth acting classes and youth musical theatre classes. She was the assistant director for CYT's The Lion King Jr and made her CYT director's debut last fall with Charlotte’s Web. She loves sharing her passion for theatre with the youth of CYT. She believes that God had gifted each child with special and unique gifts, she loves helping children discover and grow those gifts. She is so honored, humbled and grateful to God for allowing her the opportunity to share the gifts He has given her with CYT!

Rebekah Rainey

After growing up onstage, Rebekah received her B.A. in Theatre from LSU. She is a passionate storyteller and arts administrator. She has directed several shows for CYT, most recently The SpongeBob Musical. Past acting credits include Godspell (Disciple), Interrupting Vanessa (Mom), and Shrek The Musical (Gingy/Sugar Plum Fairy). Most days you can find Rebekah at a local coffee shop, listening to music and working for CYT! She is grateful to the Lord for this unique creative community.

Tristian Sholar

Tristian is excited to join the CYT teaching staff this year. He has been active in the theatre community on stage for about 9 years. In recent years Tristian has served his local church as their youth and children's minister, so he cannot wait to combine his two biggest passions together. His past stage credits include CCT'S The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Quasimodo), The Little Mermaid (Eric), West Side Story (Tony), and Shakespeare in Love (Will Shakespeare). He cannot wait to start creating memories with his class!
