About CYT Classes - Where the fun begins!

Every session (Fall, Winter and Spring) CYT Baton Rouge offers 10-week theater arts classes to children & youth ages 5 – 18. These two hour after-school classes are held once a week. On the final week of classes, students will display a portion of what they've learned by participating in a SHOWCASE for family and friends.

Enrolled students, ages 8 – 18, have the opportunity to audition for a CYT Broadway-style musical!

Younger students may serve as ushers at CYT shows, and students ages 14 and up may work on a backstage crew. You must be enrolled in a CYT class in order to be eligible to audition for a show.

*NOTE If the class your child wants to take is full, please email classes@cytbatonrouge.org. We have waiting lists; also we can potentially create a new class if there are enough students who are interested.

Current Teachers:

Allison Barraco

Born and raised in New Orleans, Allison's love of the arts started early in life. She began formal dancing at age three. The stage soon called for her and at age 7 she began theater. Her involvement in the arts continued through high school where she had the opportunity to do high school plays and during her Senior Year was asked to be a part of National Art Honor Society. She is a mother of 4 (ages 24-12) and has been married to her high school sweetheart for 25 years. Allison and her family have been a part of CYT since it began in 2013.

Bekah Branton

Bekah has been a part of CYT for the past 6 CYT seasons. She has served on many different production teams for previous shows and had her directing debut last season directing Frozen Jr. She loves to be the organizer of chaos and has had the most fun Stage Managing many past CYT shows. She is thrilled to wear two hats this show and return to the role of assitant director. She has been in many stage productions herself and holds a degree in education. Bekah can also be found teaching fantastic classes at CYT. She adores homeschooling her children, playing board games with her friends and family, and all things Disney. She was overjoyed to be with all these amazing kids, bringing this vibrant story to stage!

Donna Iverstine

Donna serves as a CYT instructor teaching Dance, Improv, ASL, and Stunts/Combat. She has also served as the Improv Team coach. She’s directed CCT's Godspell, as well as CYT’s Lion King, Jr., Tuck Everlasting, Tarzan, Peter Pan, Shrek the Musical, Mary Poppins, and Beauty & the Beast. Donna has performed with various theater groups and companies, and she currently serves as director for Timbrel Dance Company. She enjoys seeing actors and dancers, young and old, grow in their God-given talents and giftings.

Hope Carline

I am an elementary school teacher with 3 beautiful children who were all once involved in theatre. I was involved in theatre as a singer and dancer through highschool. After highschool I began teaching dance, primarly jazz and musical theatre, although I also taught ballet and tap for 11 years. This is when my love for musical theatre grew even more and I began choreographing and performing in musicals again which is what I have been doing for the last 3 years. I have choreographed Tuck Everlasting, Seussical, Wizard of Oz, and Matilda along with other exciting musicals. This show has been a blast to share with the children, I can not wait to see what the future has in store.

Jean Paul delaHoussaye

JP holds a Master's degree in Theater from Louisiana State University. He has 20 years experience in teaching theater to kids of all ages, and LOVES working with CYT!

Jeff Elliott

In High School I had the opportunity to play Harold Hill in our production of the Music Man. More than a decade later, I continued to assist with the design and painting of their sets. With a background in Industrial Design, Graphic Design, and 3D modeling and animation, I have always enjoyed creativity and problem solving. Several years ago, when all 3 of my children got involved with CYT, I jumped at the chance to work on the sets again. On the Warehouse Team and as a Set Ninja, it was easy to quietly get connected with other families behind the scenes. It was a great opportunity to bond with a group of like-minded dads, working together, laughing together, encouraging each other, and loving each other’s kids.

Joanna Gill

Greetings! My name is Joanna Gill and I am super excited to be a part of the CYT family. Kids have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember! Not only do I have a Master's Degree in Education, but I have also been a children's pastor, as well as, an elementary school teacher. The Lord called me to help shape young kids lives and I look forward to doing just that, at CYT!

Miriam received her Bachelor of Arts in Music with a focus in Vocal Performance, and enjoys using her knowledge to teach classes and vocal lessons. Miriam is extremely grateful and honored for the opportunity to perform in CCT Baton Rouge's second production.
