Description

This class is designed for teens who want to grow in their understanding of music theory with the goal of being able to confidently read and interpret music scores. Whether you're a singer, instrumentalist, or simply interested in how music works on paper, this course will help you build the foundational skills needed to understand what you're looking at when you open a piece of sheet music.
Students will learn
  • to identify and understand the grand staff, including both treble and bass clefs, as well as other commonly used clefs such as alto, tenor and soprano.
  • key signatures, time signatures and essential music symbols.
  • to recognize vocal part and how they're notated
By the end of the class, students will have a solid foundation for further musical study and performance. No prior music theory experience is required, just curiosity and a love for music.

Nathan Law

For the past nine years, I have been an active member of CYT, participating in ten productions that have deepened my love and passion for musical theatre. Throughout this journey, I’ve not only grown as a performer but also expanded my artistic skill set through professional training in three different instruments. Musical theatre has become more than just a hobby, it’s a true passion, and I’m excited to continue growing with it and seeing how the art form evolves in the years to come.
